Jonah’s birth story

Mini Mummi was encouraging mums to share their positive birth stories. I’d recently posted Jonah’s birth story on my own blog, so I was very happy to share my story with Mini Mummi! It’s encouraging and healthy for first time mums-to-be to hear positive stories rather than the overly dramatic accounts that often appear on television.

I feel so positive about Jonah’s birth, and I want other ladies to know that even if your birth doesn’t go according to plan, you can still have the most amazing birth experience.

Blogtober 2017 | Day 2 – Babies

I had originally planned a post about intuition about your baby’s sex during pregnancy, but given today’s events, I thought I’d write about my baby instead. My poor little man somehow caught a gastro bug and hasn’t had a very nice day today. Yesterday, he didn’t seem to have much of an appetite for solids, but I put it down to him not being entirely sure about this lumpy food business (he’s just moved onto the 8 months food, which has smooth lumpy bits in it, from the pureed 6 months food). But today, he was irritable and sleepier than usual.

Blogtober 2017 | Day 1 – All about me

I’m super excited to take part in my first daily challenge! Blogtober popped up on my radar at just the right time, when I found myself in a slump with my blog productivity. I’d been on a roll and suddenly everything was on top of me, with so many things to do and not enough time to do them! I made a spreadsheet to keep track of guest posts, planned blogs, and various other blog-related tasks, so now I’m getting back on top of things.

I guess that brings me to the first thing I can tell you about me: I’m organised. I love planning – holidays, parties, degrees, purchases, renovations, everything! I started this blog because I kept encountering conflicting “mummy advice” and wanted a place to share my thoughts and experiences as a new mum. My passion is writing, and I am thoroughly enjoying producing content for this blog.

Guest series: My positive birth story #2 – Hannah (The Peaceful Mama) part 1

This week’s story comes from Hannah, the Peaceful Mama. Hannah has three beautiful children, and three fantastic birth stories! Today, I’m sharing the story of her first birth with you.

Dylan’s birth

My first birth was close to ten years ago! Typically, as a first time mum, I prepared by reading ALLLLL the books in the library 😉 To try to condense my thoughts, I will whiz through these stories and bring out the highlights. What revolutionised my first birthing experience and  set me on the path I am on today, was some key things I discovered prior to this birth. I implemented them and consolidated my beliefs around birthing and the village, as well as the right education on labour, birthing and breastfeeding/postnatal care.

Things I’ve learnt about motherhood (so far)

The most important lesson I’ve learnt in my mothering journey so far, is that nothing is certain. Almost everything you think will happen (or not!) either happens differently or not at all. What do I mean by this? Perhaps these tips will paint a clearer picture …

Plain and simple support

I originally started this blog after receiving one too many bits of conflicting advice. It frustrated and confused me to have so many sources telling me different “correct” ways of caring for my baby. As I’ve mentioned before, this made me realise that every mum and every baby is different, and each of us needs to do what’s best for our child and our situation.

After almost two months of blogging, I can see potential for posts in almost anything …

Do you have a positive birth story to share?

So often we read and hear horror stories about birthing experiences. While these need to be shared, they can also introduce fear or concern for expectant mothers. Let’s try to balance the scales a little by sharing positive birth stories!

Did you have a positive birth where everything went smoothly and as planned?

Perhaps your birth experience didn’t go as planned but you have some positive aspects you prefer to focus on?

Guest series: My positive birth story #1 – Romina (Mini Mummi Blogger)

With so many stories out there about negative birth experiences, I thought it would be nice to highlight the positive aspects of giving birth. Thanks to Hannah for brainstorming with me to find the right topic for my first guest series! You can read her birth story in the next instalment of the series. For now, here is my story.

At 40 weeks to the day, I woke in the very early hours of a Sunday morning – I don’t even remember what time it was, now – with the sensation that I had peed my pants …

Picture Perfect

For the third night in a row, little J is having trouble getting to sleep. I’m not really sure why, he’s usually out like a light by 9:30PM, and sleeps right through till about 6 in the morning. We haven’t done anything particularly different these past few days … perhaps he’s having a growth spurt.
