In a long line of enthusiastic cooks, my culinary arts come as somewhat of a disappointment. The running joke in my family is that Mum will have to teach my brother (who apparently shows more interest in it than I) to cook, so that the line of good cooks continues.
I’m not a funny person. I don’t have that natural ability to just make a joke out of anything. Now, witty? I would probably accept that label, but that’s not the topic of today’s conversation!
I have to admit that this prompt had me completely stuck so stuck, that I took a couple of days to think about it, and other things ended up getting in the way. (Is it a joke that as I was about to leave the car dealership with my newly-purchased SUV, that I discovered that the driver’s seat moves up and down electrically, but that this function didn’t actually work and I ended up waiting for another two hours for it to get fixed? No? Well, then …)
I’ve got to be honest: for this prompt, I had no idea where to begin. I guess the most immediate goal I’m working towards is staying on top of and completing the #Blogtober17 challenge! So far, I’ve managed to stay a day ahead, but today I was stuck on what to write about. So, my first goal is to get back to being a day ahead of the prompts, so I don’t have to rush on the day, or risk missing a day because something happened that prevented me from working on my blog that day. Now that I’ve gotten started, there are a lot of things on my list …
I’ve mentioned previously that I am no green thumb. In fact, I’m a known serial plant-killer. Unintentionally, of course! But that doesn’t stop me from liking plants and flowers. I’d love to have a pretty garden, in place of the unflattering foliage that the previous owners of our house put in when they “The Block-ed” it.
My love for education began in kindergarten. I used to come home on a Monday afternoon and sit down to do my homework. The rule in our house was that we had to do our homework each afternoon first, before we could do “fun things”. I would complete my week’s homework tasks in the one sitting on Mondays … Not only did I like learning new things, but I quickly caught on to the “fun things” rule – if I did all my homework on the first day, I could just do fun stuff for the rest of the week! Yes, I was a bit of a smarty pants …
The first thing I thought of for this prompt was the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. You know … “I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date!”. These days, I seem to be late for pretty much everything. It’s remarkable when I manage to arrive somewhere on time … but it’s usually because I aim to leave much earlier than I really need to!
When the little man first came along, we soon discovered that it takes about half an hour longer to pack the car than it did before. It takes some time to get used to. After a while, I started pre-packing things the night before, when we needed to get somewhere we really couldn’t be late to. This has helped a lot, but sometimes we’re still late!
I had originally planned a post about intuition about your baby’s sex during pregnancy, but given today’s events, I thought I’d write about my baby instead. My poor little man somehow caught a gastro bug and hasn’t had a very nice day today. Yesterday, he didn’t seem to have much of an appetite for solids, but I put it down to him not being entirely sure about this lumpy food business (he’s just moved onto the 8 months food, which has smooth lumpy bits in it, from the pureed 6 months food). But today, he was irritable and sleepier than usual.
I’m super excited to take part in my first daily challenge! Blogtober popped up on my radar at just the right time, when I found myself in a slump with my blog productivity. I’d been on a roll and suddenly everything was on top of me, with so many things to do and not enough time to do them! I made a spreadsheet to keep track of guest posts, planned blogs, and various other blog-related tasks, so now I’m getting back on top of things.
I guess that brings me to the first thing I can tell you about me: I’m organised. I love planning – holidays, parties, degrees, purchases, renovations, everything! I started this blog because I kept encountering conflicting “mummy advice” and wanted a place to share my thoughts and experiences as a new mum. My passion is writing, and I am thoroughly enjoying producing content for this blog.
