Blogtober 2017 | Day 13 – Movies

Speaking of movies, I happen to be watching one with my little man right now. Finding Nemo is a great film for kids. I like it because it’s full of colour – bright colours appeal to my son, who’s only 8 months old. His favourite is Aladdin, full of rich reds, purples and golds. But, back to Nemo for now.

Blogtober 2017 | Day 12 – (The Look of)Love

“Love is patient; love is kind and envies no one. Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude; never selfish, not quick to take offence. Love keeps no score of wrongs; does not gloat over another’s sins, but delights in the truth. There is nothing love cannot face; there is not limit to its faith, its hope, and its endurance. In a word, there are three things that last forever: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of them all is love.” (1 Corinthians 13)

What is Love?

There are so many quotes about love out there, and most of them are about romantic love. But love is not just a romantic or sexual concept. Dictionary.com defines love as:

‘1. a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
2. a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.
3. sexual passion or desire.’

Loves takes many forms, and comes in varied strengths. Today, I want to take a look at the love between a mother and her child.

Blogtober 2017 | Day 11 – Kitchen

In a long line of enthusiastic cooks, my culinary arts come as somewhat of a disappointment. The running joke in my family is that Mum will have to teach my brother (who apparently shows more interest in it than I) to cook, so that the line of good cooks continues.

Blogtober 2017 | Day 10 – Joke

I’m not a funny person. I don’t have that natural ability to just make a joke out of anything. Now, witty? I would probably accept that label, but that’s not the topic of today’s conversation!

I have to admit that this prompt had me completely stuck so stuck, that I took a couple of days to think about it, and other things ended up getting in the way. (Is it a joke that as I was about to leave the car dealership with my newly-purchased SUV, that I discovered that the  driver’s seat moves up and down electrically, but that this function didn’t actually work and I ended up waiting for another two hours for it to get fixed? No? Well, then …)

I’m a Liebster Award Nominee

Shout out to Susan from The Petite Pepper – thank you so much for the nomination! Susan has lived all over the US, works in healthcare, and is married to a pilot! Her lifestyle blog morphed into a mummy lifestyle blog after the arrival of her gorgeous little girl. There are some great posts on her blog – you should head over and check it out!

Blogtober 2017 | Day 9 – Ice-cream

I didn’t really have cravings during my pregnancy, but I did eat my fair share of ice-cream! I have a sweet tooth, and it got a whole lot sweeter …

Blogtober 2017 | Day 8 – Holidays

I remember lots of family holidays as a kid. We’d often go places with bush walking or museums or some sort of activity to do. Always places we could drive to, since my dad likes driving but really does not like flying. One of my favourite childhood holidays is a trip to Jindabyne. I recall the holiday house we stayed in, House Matterhorn. I Googled it just now and it looks just like it did then, some fifteen years ago – but not old, mind you. It was a lovely holiday. We tried to ski (without much success, as we were going horizontally across the slope, because we were too scared to try going down), and we had heaps of fun with toboggans. My brother and I built a snowman, then a snow-Henry (our puppy, which we had recently acquired). I don’t think it actually snowed while we were there, but it was so bloody cold that even the snowsuits we were wearing barely kept out the chill.

Blogtober 2017 | Day 7 – Goals

I’ve got to be honest: for this prompt, I had no idea where to begin. I guess the most immediate goal I’m working towards is staying on top of and completing the #Blogtober17 challenge! So far, I’ve managed to stay a day ahead, but today I was stuck on what to write about. So, my first goal is to get back to being a day ahead of the prompts, so I don’t have to rush on the day, or risk missing a day because something happened that prevented me from working on my blog that day. Now that I’ve gotten started, there are a lot of things on my list …

Blogtober 2017 | Day 6 – Flowers

I’ve mentioned previously that I am no green thumb. In fact, I’m a known serial plant-killer. Unintentionally, of course! But that doesn’t stop me from liking plants and flowers. I’d love to have a pretty garden, in place of the unflattering foliage that the previous owners of our house put in when they “The Block-ed” it.

Blogtober 2017 | Day 5 – Education

My love for education began in kindergarten. I used to come home on a Monday afternoon and sit down to do my homework. The rule in our house was that we had to do our homework each afternoon first, before we could do “fun things”. I would complete my week’s homework tasks in the one sitting on Mondays … Not only did I like learning new things, but I quickly caught on to the “fun things” rule – if I did all my homework on the first day, I could just do fun stuff for the rest of the week! Yes, I was a bit of a smarty pants …
