Blogtober 2017 | Day 18 – Relaxation

I’m not the best at relaxation. I’m always on the go with one project or another, going here or there, and generally keeping busy. But, when I’m not, I’m pretty much a blob. I “rest” by watching TV or surfing the web (or, more specifically, social media), rather than actually taking a break for my mind as well as my body.

When I do relax – and I have to make an effort to actually relax, not just rest – there are a few things the I may do to help wind down.

1. Breathing. There’s a technique called Heart Math, which I learned about recently, which is great for lowering your heart rate and calming anxiety. The idea is to breathe in concentrating on your heart, and breathe out, exhaling a positive thought. It really works!

2. Read a book. I love reading, and delving into another world can really allow my brain to switch off for a while. Depending on the book, it sometimes can wind me up again, though!

3. Meditation. I feel silly trying to meditate, but I do listen to meditation tracks, and they are very helpful in regulating your breathing and cantering your focus. I particularly like Louise Hay’s Morning and Evening Meditations; her voice is very soothing. Anthony Strano’s A Time for Healing is also a good set of meditation tracks.

Relaxation is definitely something I could do more of. Whenever I have a free minute, I try to “get stuff done”, and end up tired when I could have spent a few minutes feeling refreshed and replenished.

What are your favourite ways to relax?

Thought provoking post! How I like to relax has changed so much now Jonah is here. It would’ve been a long walk before. Now it’s a short walk! I also like knitting and baking but like you said about reading, I could end up getting frustrated! Truthfully, I find it so hard to relax. Especially now I’m blogging and cramming it into every spare minute. I need a break away from all computers, phones, and coffee! 😬😂

Totally! But we neeeed social media for our blogging presence, don’t we? It’s hard to get a good balance. Thanks for reading!

I don’t do relaxing much either. I have to admit I was way more relaxed before I had kids. #blogtober

I don’t think I was very relaxed even then! Thanks for reading x
