Blogtober 2017 | Day 1 – All about me

I’m super excited to take part in my first daily challenge! Blogtober popped up on my radar at just the right time, when I found myself in a slump with my blog productivity. I’d been on a roll and suddenly everything was on top of me, with so many things to do and not enough time to do them! I made a spreadsheet to keep track of guest posts, planned blogs, and various other blog-related tasks, so now I’m getting back on top of things.

I guess that brings me to the first thing I can tell you about me: I’m organised. I love planning – holidays, parties, degrees, purchases, renovations, everything! I started this blog because I kept encountering conflicting “mummy advice” and wanted a place to share my thoughts and experiences as a new mum. My passion is writing, and I am thoroughly enjoying producing content for this blog.

Let’s see … a bit more about me. I am a 30-something, first time mum to a beautiful baby boy, who is almost 8 months old. I am constantly amazed by his inquisitive nature and the clever things he does. He brings me so much joy, and I doubt even my writing talents can truly capture the heart-bursting emotion that swirls within me when I look at his gorgeous little face.

I love studying, and have undertaken degrees in publishing, arts/IT, project management, and astronomy. I’m excited to be starting a degree in digital media next year! I have always loved learning, and I enjoy putting my learning into practice. I’ve actually got another blog about writing/publishing/instructional design, here: http://spellboundpress.wordpress.com.

Some of my other passions include dance, musical theatre, photography, and colouring. I started learning ballet, tap and jazz at the age of 6, and finally completed the syllabi in my mid-twenties (including a teaching qualification). When I ran out of grades to learn, I auditioned for a community musical theatre production of A Chorus Line and landed the role of Diana Morales. It was so much fun! Since then, I have played Victoria the White Cat in Cats, and performed as a featured dancer in productions of Jerry’s Girls and The Wizard of Oz, and as part of the nuns choir in The Sound of Music. I was even asked to be the choreographer for the latter, and it was the best experience!

With photography, I had always enjoyed taking pictures, but I was so bad at it! A common critique of my photos was always “what are you trying to take a photo of?”; my subject was never clear. I have enjoyed learning how to use a DSLR and improving my photography skills. I’ve still got plenty to learn, and am looking forward to one day taking much nicer photos!

I’ve always liked the concept of Halloween, but it’s not really a big thing here in Australia. People go “Trick or Treating”, but it’s not that common, and there aren’t a lot of houses around with Halloween decorations, or many events celebrating the occasion. This is partly why I’m excited to participate in Blogtober! This year, I’ve set myself the task of taking a cool Halloween-themed pic of my little man. Let’s see how I go!

Happy blogging!

Halloween is getting bigger in the UK but it’s still nowhere near as big as America. How awesome to be in the sound of music! One of my all time favourite musicals 🙂 #Blogtober17

#Blogtober17 is fab! I took part last year and you will enjoy it! Halloween isn’t really anything here anymore! The shops sell alot of stuff but it has become all commercialized and not as many people take part like they did when i was younger!

    • Mini Mummi Blogger | 2nd Oct 17

That’s a shame! At least there’s a lot of fun Halloween movies, I guess! It doesn’t really make much sense over here, anyway. It’s not autumn, but spring, so it’s not even windy in the right way!

Hi! I LOVE musical theatre. I think my favourite has to be Phantom of the Opera although I do love Les Miserables too. I used to do am-dram until I was 18. I still miss it x

    • Mini Mummi Blogger | 2nd Oct 17

Both such phenomenal shows. I think I prefer Phantom to Les Mis, but they both have such powerful songs! I think my favourite is Chicago, though. I’d love to play Velma one day!

I may sound like a grump but I hate growth on Halloween in the UK truth is I actually get framed out asking for sweets and dressing up in a very non scary way I could do the other stuff nope

    • Mini Mummi Blogger | 2nd Oct 17

It’s not for everyone 🙂 especially if it’s not traditionally a holiday/occasion celebrated where people are from. Halloween does have some interesting origins, though! Thanks for reading 🙂
